Firefighters divide their time between fire prevention and fire response. Routine activities include inspecting buildings for fire code violations, presenting fire-safety programs in schools, maintaining firefighting equipment, evaluating practice drills and attending hazardous materials training. Additionally, firefighters who spend overnights at the fire station are responsible for helping with household tasks, such as cooking and cleaning.
